Surrey historical analysis
The transcript and analysis provided on this web site are based upon the 1664 Lady Day manuscript. A transcription of this document was published in 1940 by the Surrey Records Society and this contained an introduction by C. A. F. Meekings, archivist at the Public Record Office.
This introduction provides an invaluable overview of the 1664 Lady Day manuscript and the context in which it was compiled. This volume has been out of print for some time so extracts from the introduction are provided below.
Every effort has been made to identify the current copyright ownership of this volume.
An award-winning publication, Putney and Roehampton in 1665: A Street Directory and Guide, by Dorian Gerhold, provides detailed documentation and analysis of those residing in two Surrey parishes.
